A funny thing happened on the way to work last week. Glen’s iPhone kept bleeping. The sound was a kind of chirp that indicated someone, somewhere, had just entered the JavaMoose website. I was relieved that he had replaced the original notification sound with a chirp rather than the previous ships foghorn sound. You see, that sound was rather annoying, especially at 4:30am when the work day begins.
I began to wonder, as the frequency of the bleeps increased, what people were doing up at 4:30am going to the website (making JavaMoose coffee I hope.) I can only assume that lots of people are early risers. So I am dedicating this blog to them.
I am not an early riser by choice. I start my day early because I am in the coffee business. During University my idea of an early morning began at 10:45, mere minutes before my first class. My thought process, while trying to rouse myself from a warm bed, usually went something like this:
-I can sleep for 5 more minutes if I don’t empty the dishwasher.
-Since there are no clean dishes, I can stay in bed for 10 more minutes if I skip breakfast.
-Since I am skipping breakfast, I can sleep another 5 minutes if I don’t brush my teeth until I get to school.
-If I wear the same thing I wore yesterday I can save 10 more minutes not looking for clean clothes in the dryer and thus stay in bed even longer.
-If I don’t empty the dishwasher, skip breakfast, brush my teeth later, and wear the same clothes as yesterday AND skip coffee…
It never happened that way. I ALWAYS made time for coffee, as I could not conceive of 3 hours of classes without caffeine. I would trudge to the kitchen, grind some beans, and make a cup with my Melitta one-cup coffee maker. I still have the grinder and coffee maker some 35 years later and yes, they still work.
So I take my hat off to all the early risers who deserve a good cup of coffee to kick start their day. My recommendation for a good morning brew is Kenya AA. Flavourful, without the aggressive taste of a dark roast. Perfect for easing into your day, Kenya AA is the perfect coffee.
So whatever your idea of an early morning is, have a great cup of coffee and a great day! Hope to see you in the store!
