Bacon! Beer! Chocolate! & Coffee!
Have you ever had foods that are not supposed to work together. You know...celery and peanut butter, cheesy popcorn and caramel, or liver and bacon?
In a small town called Bamburg Germany along the Main River, there are eight breweries making over sixty distinct beers. The most famous is a smoked beer with a distinct bacon aroma and taste. The locals are truly passionate about this honey brown beverage. At 10:00am a good number of Bamburgers were enjoying their first traditional morning beer.
Local Bamburg lore suggests you must drink three beer before you can acquire the taste. After 1.5litres, anything would apparently taste good. Remember those university days? Even liver and bacon might be acceptable....after 1.5litres of beer.
But smoked bacon beer? Can't do it.
To compensate for our shaky conservative tastebuds, the tour escort suggested we try another variation on the smoked bacon beer theme. Fortunately, a local chocolatier combined a rich dark chocolate truffle with the smoked beer flavour. Perfect!
We found a student approved Kaffehaus; ordered a black coffee; opened the box of truffles and enjoyed a moment in heaven.
What an amazing taste-bacon, beer, chocolate and coffee. And so easy to convince our fellow travellers to try....after 1.5litres of beer!
